Victorian Opera presents The Selfish Giant for Victorian primary school students, streamed live from Arts Centre Melbourne’s Playhouse Theatre.

Composed by Simon Bruckard with the libretto written by Emma Muir-Smith, this lively and humorous work teaches the importance of generosity and kindness and how we often learn these lessons in the most unlikely of circumstances.

A grumpy Giant’s garden is taken over by Winter, Wind, Snow and Frost, to hilarious effect, after he bans the local children from playing in it. When a group of children find a way in, The Selfish Giant quickly learns that only they will bring his garden back to life.
